Shalford Hall Summer Exhibition 2022

Guildford Art Society held the rewards ceremony for its Summer Exhibition at Shalford Village Hall on Friday 19 August. There were 8 awards given during the evening by GAS President Jane Allison and Co Chair Sinclair Webster.

The best Mixed Media award, sponsored by George Weil an art supply store in Peasmarsh Guildford, was given to David Jobson for his ‘Looking at You’ painting.

The best Contemporary Artwork was given to Barbara Whitbourn for ‘Kernow Summer’ sponsored by RSM International, an accounting and professional services firm.

The President’s award given was given by Jane Allison to Jean Ellis for her oil painting ‘Reflections’. Jane liked the detail and depth of colour in the painting.

Aquarius Framers in Godalming gave the open award to John Ford, a new Guildford Art Society member, who painted ‘1958 Americas Cup Challenger Sceptre’ This painting had great personal meaning to John because he “was lent from the Navy for 6 weeks to help crew the other yacht ‘Evaine’ which acted as a trial horse helping to work Sceptre up”.

Darren Stiff from Guildford Financial chose to give Michael Woods the Best of Guildford award for ‘A Walk Across Surrey Heath’, a beautifully painted colourful acrylic painting.

The Guildford Arts open award chosen by Jan Wilkinson was given to Heather Oliver for her lovely ‘Sinking Sun’ Fused Art Glass. The colours and craftmanship are unmistakeable in Heather’s artwork.

The Guildford Institute open award was chosen by Chelsea Eves, program manager, and was given to Christine Thompson for ‘Seascape at Dawn’.

Finally, the Country Club Kaufman award was chosen by Sue Jelly who was delighted to present the award in Kaufman’s memory. Sue chose Ronnie Ireland’s ‘Balance 2’ acrylic painting. Although Sue did not get to meet Ronnie, she wrote him a lovely personal note; hopefully they can meet up at a later date.
