John Jeffrey for Chairperson
The AGM was not well attended and without a quorum we were not able to vote John Jeffrey in as Chairperson. Currently, the Committee is working on a solution for this and other AGM matters. For those of you not at the meeting below is a little information about John. We hope that everyone gets to meet him; he is an excellent candidate for the Society Chair and his warm and friendly nature has left a great impression on the committee.
My name is John Jeffrey. I was born in Middlesbrough in the north east of England in 1964.
I moved to London in 1981 where I joined the Metropolitan Police who I served with for 32 years. I retired 13 years ago and retrained as a chef and managed a busy kitchen in the Surrey area. I’m lucky enough to have retired again, and this year joined the Guildford Art Society.
I have become involved in the Thursday morning group and I also volunteer with Godalming and Guildford Conquest Art group.
I have experience of administrative duties and chairing groups as I was an Executive member of the Police Federation for a number of years.
I’m enthusiastic about all things I enter into and am willing to and would like to do as much as I can for the Society and its members.
I live close to the town centre in Guildford with my wife Mandy. We have two sons, Stanley and Eric, Stanley is an officer in the Royal Navy and Eric, like his mother, a Barrister.
We also have a three legged whippet, Elvis.
My interests are mainly drawing and painting in watercolours and acrylics with no particular style. I just find ‘art’ a relaxation. I think everyone is an artist.
I think that given my background, skills and enthusiasm I could serve the society in an official capacity as Chair person.
