GAS NEWSLETTER - 1st of September 2024
We are welcoming September with mixed feelings. While we just wrapped up our lovely
Summer Exhibition, which brings us joy, but we have also received the very sad news that
our member, Michael Woods, has sadly passed away. Those who knew Michael had only good words about him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
WHAT HAPPENED IN AUGUST
In August, we held our Summer Exhibition, which was well attended, with 862 visitors coming through the Village Hall doors. This year, we asked our visitors to vote for their favorite painting, and the artist with the most votes was... Kim Page!
Congratulations Kim, we have a box of
chocolates with your name on it :) We made a good number of sales, but most importantly, we showcased our art and connected with wonderful visitors and fellow artists. As a wise woman once said, “It is not meant to be a sale.” I believe this is very true—let’s not let greed get to our heads and get in the way of our enjoyment! We received lovely feedback from many
visitors and sparked a lot of interest in joining the Society.
We also managed to get media coverage for our exhibition, resulting in a news story.
Shanon, the reporter, was very impressed with the quality of the artworks and tried to
capture every single one on camera. However, with only 86 seconds to cover the story,
she knew it was impossible, so she wanted to say “well done” to everyone for their
talented work and apologies if she didn’t manage to show every painting!
The story aired on That’s TV Surrey last Friday evening, and Shan from That’s Surrey TV
kindly shared a link on X for us. https://x.com/TTVSouthEast/status/1829641206768549967.
Hopefully we will be able to post it our social media channels and website soon, so we can
share it with everyone :) Thanks to everyone who attended, stewarded, and participated in the exhibition, and special thanks to the team who made this exhibition possible! From banners to labels,
there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that we may not see but should be appreciated!
A special thank you to everyone who helped make this exhibition a successful one :)

SPECIAL MENTION: ART&GRIND
You’ve probably heard about Art&Grind, the new café and art venue at the top of the High Street in Guildford. We recently met with Trish, the owner, and Robyn, the exhibition manager—both are strong supporters of art and artists. They are more than happy to join forces to promote our Society and support our work. So, we thought we’d do the same by
letting you know about their beautiful venue!
They host workshops, promote local artists, and run weekly exhibitions. Plus, they serve
delicious coffee and pastries. You can even book an easel and paint there! It’s a must-visit
place if you’re in town.
And they’re just across from Trinity Church, so we may pay them a visit during our Pop Up,
I have been told they make a delicious chocolate brownies!
Here is their address:
