February Demonstration with Rick Holmes

Rick Holmes, Saturday's demonstrating artist, is a member of Guildford Art Society with whom many of our members are well acquainted. The event proved to be a very sociable occasion with more than thirty of our members coming to see Rick's mixed-media demonstration using acrylic inks and pastels.

Rick's presentation was light-hearted and friendly but by no means short on advice and information. He guided us comprehensively through the process of creating an acrylic ink and pastel painting, beginning with the preparation of his chosen support and culminating in how to clean your pastels which, as many of us know, can be a daunting challenge in itself! He covered important points for a successful composition as well as a host of other tips: some relevant to the chosen media of the day and others invaluable whatever one's chosen medium.
